Mafia 4 announcement around the corner?

It should not come across as a surprise to us that the Mafia series may be getting a new sequel. It has been a while since we received a new Mafia game, if we exclude the remake of the first Mafia game, which is, technically speaking, not a new Mafia game. MafiaCentral.net is getting ready to cover all news that will be coming in the following days. According to Kurakis (an insider), Take-Two has begun preparations for an announcement regarding the Mafia series.

2 years ago, Kurakis came up with information that the fourth game in the series would be a prequel to the first installment and that it would potentially take place in Sicily. This may seem like a U-turn, considering the fact that in each new Mafia game, we were progressing in time. Mafia 1 was taking place in the 30s, Mafia 2 in the 50s and Mafia 3 in the late 60s.

However, Mafia Definitive Edition may have changed the developer team’s strategy. With all assets made for M1DE in the style of the 30s, it may have seemed unwise to start a new project set in a completely different era. Mafia Definitive Edition was released in 2020 when Take-Two had an official strategy of remaking old classics of the gaming industry, as chief executive officer Strauss Zelnick explained in one of the interviews. Many fans were rejecting the Mafia series after the failure of Mafia 3. In that context, it made perfectely sense to make a remake of the first installment – the game series returned to its roots and this approach was in accordance with the Take-Two’s strategy. Now this decision seems to be pushing the developers to follow up on the 30s/20s style.
